Archetype FAQ

Posted: July 7th, 2010

We’ve culled our e-mails, rifled through our tweets, and accosted many carrier pigeons to compile this list of questions and answers relating to Archetype. Let’s dig in!

Can I change my CombatTag name?

To prevent unsportsmanlike conduct and/or spam, CombatTags are permanent.

Why can’t I find a n008 to pwn?

Double-check that you are still in the match. Exit the current game and return to the Matchmaking Lobby to check your ping rate (the number next to your CombatTag). You may have temporary latency issues.

Why am I getting pwn’d so quickly?!

Though we try and match people with equivalent skills, sometimes you’ll come across someone who’s much better than you are. Lay low, figure out what they’re doing that you are not, and practice, practice, practice. Seek these people out and learn.

Why does weapon X seem overpowered compared to the other weapons?

There are many reasons for the decisions made while balancing the weapons, and we know with a lot of players finding new techniques there is still room to tweak.
When thinking about weapon strength, first consider the situation in which it is used (close quarters, open spaces, etc.). For example, the Shotgun is powerful at short range, as is the Melee Axe, so keep your distance. The Precision Rifle is great at long distances, so close in or let yourself have time to heal and use a combination of grenades, etc. Some weapons were designed to be slightly more powerful and spawn less, or put in harder to reach places, so access and spawn time are factors as well. If you still feel there is an imbalance in The Force, please speak up. We always greatly appreciate your feedback!

How can I play a match with only my buddies?

Easy! Add them to your BuddyList. Once they approve the request, send them a challenge! (Note that in 1.6, there is an issue with the challenge being received; we hope to fix this issue in the future.)

How can I be on the same team as my friends?

Easier! View your friends’ profile and tap the “Prefer” button. This locks you into an everlasting embrace with your friend deep within the bowels of our servers. Ahh, technology.

How can I avoid bad players/team killers?

Easiest! View the offender’s profile and select “Avoid.” This brands the offending player with a shameful mark for all our servers to see. (Should you make up later, just re-visit their profile and choose “Prefer” to un-do this Scarlett Letter.)

Why didn’t I gain any EXP in a challenge game?

To prevent potential abuse, experience points (EXP) and medals are not awarded for games initiated by challenges. You’ve got to earn your stripes on the field.

What’s the fastest way to rank up?

Earn your medals, son! Check your profile to see what achievement medals have been won so far, then strive to accomplish one or two (or more!) during your games. It’s not all about winning, but how you play.

I can’t seem to create a CombatTag name! Are they are all taken?

Make sure there are no naughty words in your chosen CombatTag. Archetype will reject any words on our offensive list.
